Broken Hot Water Knob on Shower / Bath Tub?

Hey there,

In our shower/tub in our bathroom, I can't get any hot water. The cold water works fine, when you turn the knob, the water comes on, but the hot water side/hot water knob is broke...it has a loose feel, and just spins when i turn it, even if i put pressure on it (like to put it back on) and turn it.

Any help?Broken Hot Water Knob on Shower / Bath Tub?
You have to remove this handle to find out what the problem is. The handle itself might be stripped out, or the stem assembly below it could be stripped. These parts are generally replaceable, but you have to remove the handle and unscrew the parts below to do that. If you can't do that, it's going to be faucet replacement time. I've had some handles be really, really tough, but even the toughest eventually come off by prying back and forth from the underneath side, generally using screwdrivers or plier handles, with rags to protect the chrome and the tub. If that didn't work, I suppose you could cut it off with a saw, to get at the replaceable parts. Generic replacement handles are easily found, and you might find a factory replacement, too, depending on how popular the brand of faucet was.Broken Hot Water Knob on Shower / Bath Tub?
It sounds like the Knob or valve stem is stripped. In the center of the knob should be a snap on cap, pry this off and you will see a screw head. try to tighten that, if that doesn't work, remove the screw and check for stripped slots on the knob and valve stem. Any hardware store should have replacements.
